Northwest girls down Lakeview
COLUMBUS Tara New scored four goals and assisted on another as Northwest defeated Columbus Lakeview 5-3 on Thursday.
New's goals came at the 7-minute mark of the first period and at 51, 70 and 79 minutes in the second half. She also assisted on Kelsi Brondel's first half goal.
"(New) was on fire," Northwest coach Craig Charron said. "We were disappointed that we couldn't use her better against Kearney, so we had her back out more. All of her goals came from outside.
"We were really happy with the effort she had."
Lakeview held a 3-2 lead after one half, but Northwest (1-1) used New's three-goal outburst and a strong defensive effort to put the game away.
"The defense had a good second half," Charron said. "The second half we really controlled the action."
