Quiznos Sub is back in Grand Island and under new ownership.
The restaurant at 1229 Allen Drive Suite B reopened on Tuesday and so far has received a warm welcome from the community, said Tammy Schweer of Taylor and Schweer Management.
Schweer has owned and managed the Hastings Quiznos with her husband, Dan, and business partners, Dawn and Brian Taylor, for nearly four years. The Schweers live in Clay Center, while the Taylors reside in Hastings.
"There is a great need for Quiznos in Grand Island," Schweer said.
After the Grand Island restaurant closed in August, Schweer said, some customers regularly drove from Grand Island to Hastings to satisfy their sub sandwich cravings.
Now that the Grand Island restaurant is open again, she's seen those customers at the new restaurant.
Quiznos has gained its following from its unique sandwich offerings, restaurant Manager Darren Sutton said. In addition to offering traditional sub toppings, the restaurant specializes in its prime rib and Black Angus steak sandwiches. The restaurant is known for toasting its subs.
Their Flatbread Sammies, or sandwiches assembled using pita-style bread, have also been gaining in popularity, Sutton said. The restaurant also offers salads, soup and bread bowls.
"I definitely think we have a superior-quality product," Sutton said.
In addition to their quality ingredients, the Grand Island Quiznos should stand out to customers because of its focus on customer service, Schweer said.
"They will have friendly service and management in that store," she said.
The restaurant has an all-new interior and is staffed by 12 employees, five of whom are full-time.
Its location will help it cater to the many surrounding medical offices and businesses, Sutton said. The restaurant also plans to begin offering sandwich delivery at the end of March or early April.
If the Grand Island location does well, Schweer said, her management group may open another Quiznos in town in a few years. They're also looking at establishing more Quiznos restaurants in other Central Nebraska communities.
Schweer encouraged those who haven't been to Quiznos Sub in a while to give it a try again.
"They're going to have a good customer service experience is the main thing," she said. "I don't think they'll be disappointed."
