Islanders drop pair of games in Lincoln
LINCOLN Grand Island Senior High dropped two games in a triangular Saturday at Lincoln Southwest.
In the first game, Lincoln Southwest got three runs in the first two innings and held on for a 3-2 victory. Kirby Wells took the loss for the Islanders.
"Game one was a little frustrating," Grand Island coach Rick Kissack said. "We really threatened most of the afternoon and just couldn't get the big hit to push us over the hump."
The Islanders (2-4) then fell 6-2 to Omaha Gross in the second game. Nebraska recruit Kash Kalkowski took the loss for Grand Island as the Islanders committed five errors.
"In game two, Kash really pitched well," Kissack said. "We gave up five unearned runs. Those five errors really did us in.
"Right now we're in just a little bit of a transition. We're not quite making the plays we expect to make and we're not able to overcome them at this point."
Grand Island will play at Columbus on Monday.
