HASTINGS The South Central Town Hall Caregivers Coalition and the Hastings Parks and Recreation Department will host the third annual Day of Caring for Those Who Care from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. April 17 at the Hastings City Auditorium.

The event is being funded by the Hastings Community Foundation, the Harrah's Foundation, CPB, PBS and AARP Publications.

Caregivers in Adams, Clay, Nuckolls and Webster counties are invited to attend, and there is no charge to attend the day's activities.

The event will include a resource fair by area agencies that can benefit caregivers and booths with relaxing activities.

This year, the Day of Caring has been selected by WGBH Boston and PBS to be part of a nationwide effort to educate baby boomers by viewing the PBS documentary film "Caring for Your Parents." As the population ages, many adults are grappling with an unprecedented social, economic and personal revolution as they transition into the primary caregiver for their aging parents.

Featured speaker at the event will be Lindy Bixler, independent medical family therapist. Her topic will be "Hanging by a Thread" and will include adjusting to life-altering medical and disaster-related incidents, anxiety, depression, self-care for caregivers and communication.

There will also be an appreciation luncheon with entertainment provided by the Angle Company of Lincoln presenting "Caring for Your Parents the Play."

For more information on the Day of Caring, to obtain a registration form or to find out about respite and transportation to attend the event, call Midlands Area Agency of Aging at (402) 463-4565 or Hastings Respite Care at (402) 463-8124.
