Spice things up: Go south of the border on a bagel.
Mexicali Pizza
6 bagels, split and toasted
3 tablespoons pizza sauce
1 8 3/4-ounce can dark red kidney beans, drained
1 cup chopped onion
1 or 2 finely chopped jalapeno peppers (remove seeds for a milder flavor)
12 tortilla chips (white or yellow)
2 cups (8 ounce) shredded Monterey Jack cheese
1 tablespoons chili powder
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Spoon 1 1/2 teaspoons pizza sauce on each bagel half. Evenly top with beans, onion, jalapeno pepper, tortilla chips and cheese. Sprinkle with chili powder. Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until heated through.

Bagel-BBQ: Make bagel shells by scooping out the insides of two or three sliced bagels. Brown 1 pound of crumbled ground beef, add garlic and onion if desired. Drain and season. Mix in 1 tablespoon of brown sugar, 1/2 cup barbecue sauce and bread crumbs made from the bagel insides. Cook until heated through. Spoon mixture into bagel shells and bake at 350 degree F for 15 minutes.
Sauted onion and mushroom: Saut a small onion and 1 cup of chopped mushrooms in a tablespoon of olive oil, add a crushed garlic clove if desired. Season with thyme or rosemary. Spoon onto bagel halves, cover with slices of Muenster or Havarti cheese. Broil until cheese melts.
