Major Democratic candidates for state and national offices will gather at 11 a.m. Saturday at the United Veterans Club, 1914 Capital Ave.

U.S. Senate candidates Scott Kleeb of Hastings and Tony Raimondo of Columbus are scheduled to appear, as well as House candidates Jay Stoddard of Grand Island and Paul Spatz of Osmond.

This will be the first joint appearance by Kleeb and Raimondo. Two other candidates, Larry Marvin of Fremont and James Wilson of Lincoln, have also been invited.

Several state senators and candidates for the Legislature from western Nebraska are also scheduled to appear.

"There has been a huge upsurge in interest in Democratic policies this year, something we have not seen in Nebraska in decades," said Mona Kufalk, vice chairwoman of the Democrats' 3rd District organization. "Our caucus in February produced turnouts of record size all over Nebraska, and the worsening economic conditions nationally and the prolonged war in Iraq have left more people open to change than we have experienced in decades."

The candidates will be encouraged to present their solutions for Nebraska's issues, and there will be an opportunity for questions from the audience.
