SUPERIOR < Playing without two senior starters and battling difficult weather conditions, the Grand Island Central Catholic boys golf team rolled to an 18-stroke victory Thursday in the Superior Invitational.
The Crusaders shot 345 at Superior Country Club to outdistance second-place Fillmore Central (363). Central Catholic had three players earn medals as junior Nick Daley was third (82), sophomore Dale Curran was seventh (85) and junior Spencer Fahey took ninth (86).
Freshman Turner Fahey added a 92 for GICC.
Crusader seniors Tim Dvorak and Nathan LaBrie were unable to compete in the meet due to their involvement in another activity at GICC.
"Our kids really gave a good effort," Central Catholic coach Bob McFarland said. "They were playing in a misty rain, it was 37 degrees and the wind was blowing 30 mph, so the scores may not have been that impressive, but it was a very good performance."
