Boy Scouts to hold fundraiser today
Starting at 10 a.m. today, Boy Scout Troop 147, Resurrection Church, will have its annual and main fundraiser at Sam's Club.
They will be serving fresh grilled hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, chili dogs, Pepsi products, potato salad, baked beans and brownies.
The fundraiser will help the Scouts maintain their equipment and equipment trailer, allow them to buy one new tent, defray expenses on Scout projects, week long summer camps, overnight camp outings, welcoming the Boy Scouts cross over from Cub Scouts and merit badges and awards.
Cities to test outdoor warning sirens
The Grand Island-Hall County outdoor warning sirens will be tested at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
The regular test signal will be sounded for one minute.
In the event of an actual emergency, the sirens would be sounded for three to five minutes, signaling people to turn to a local radio or television station for information.
Sirens will be tested in Grand Island, Alda, Cairo, Doniphan and Wood River.
Schools raise more than $1,700 for Crisis Center
The Crisis Center held the first Safe Shelters Make Cents fund raiser in area schools from Feb. 18-29. There were 16 schools that participated from Hall, Hamilton, Howard and Merrick counties. These schools included: Newell, Wasmer, Knickrehm, Westlawn, Stolley Park, St. Libory, Seedling Mile, Dodge, Gates, Engleman and Lincoln.
Walnut Middle School, Heartland Lutheran School, Central City School, Palmer School and Northwest High School also participated.
Altogether, these 16 schools raised more than $1,756 for the Crisis Center. Their pocket change will make a "change" in several families' lives.
Nebraska Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired to meet in Grand Island
Grand Island will host the Nebraska Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired from Tuesday through Thursday, April 1 through 3.
Forty-nine staff members from six offices across Nebraska will attend the meeting at the Howard Johnson Riverside Inn, 3333 Ramada Road. The five-member, governor-appointed board of commissioners will also be in attendance.
Speakers will include Sue Hill from Tabitha Health Care Services, Lincoln; Deana Graham from Criss Cole Center for the Blind, Austin, Texas; Nina Swanson and Dave Dechant from Best Care Employee Assistance Program, Omaha; and Pat Bracken from Vocational Rehabilitation Services, Lincoln.
Subjects to be covered during the three-day meeting include ways for maintaining motivation and positive energy in the workplace, performance dimensions using data to drive practice, the proper referral of consumers with mental health issues to needed resources, burnout and how to prevent it, supported employment services and referral of people with multiple disabilities to vocational rehabilitation services.
Singles in Agriculture meeting is April 4-6
The Nebraska Singles In Agriculture annual meeting will be from Friday through Sunday, April 6 in Grand Island.
At 4:30 p.m. Friday, will be the registration at Howard Johnson Riverside Inn. At 6 p.m. the meeting will be attending the horse races and eating out.
On April 5, they will be touring the Platte Generating Station then go to eat and either go to a dance or movie.

District 41 candidates to speak
Candidates for the District 41 seat in the state Legislature will speak in a second forum at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 6, in the Petersburg American Legion Hall.
The five candidates are being contacted to add the event to their schedules. They include Paul Eurek of Loup City, Jerry Peterson of Neligh, Gary Rasmussen of Elba, Kate Sullivan of Cedar Rapids and Jerome Warner of Greeley.
Other candidates for regional offices will also be allowed time to speak.
Omaha to host annual spring genealogy conference
Michael John Neill, a nationally recognized genealogist and lecturer, will be the featured speaker at the Greater Omaha Genealogical Society's annual Spring Genealogy Workshop and Conference.
The conference will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 5, at Nebraska Methodist College, 720 N. 87th St. It will continue until 5 p.m.
Workshop topics this year will be "Researching the Entire Family," "Beginning German Research," "Land Records" and "Researching on a Tight Budget."
The conference also will include handouts, T-shirts, door prizes, vendors and a bake sale fundraiser. Lunch will be available.
