The public entrance into the Hall County Courthouse will be changing under the latest renovation design.
Instead of entering the courthouse on the northwest, near a downtown parking garage, the entrance will be moved to the south.
The idea will be discussed during a county board meeting that starts at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
Hall County supervisors have already OK'd the addition of a covered hallway connecting the Hall County Courthouse and the former Public Safety Center and jail.
The Public Safety Center is to be renamed the Courthouse Annex and is to house the clerk of the District Court's office, and satellite offices of the Hall County Corrections Department and Hall County Sheriff's Department. The jail primarily will be used for office storage.
Sheriff Jerry Watson said his office provides security to the courtrooms and under the initial design may have needed an additional security station. The current station is located in the courthouse rotunda.
But by moving the security station to the new enclosed hallway, supervisors are hoping all three buildings could be covered by a single station.
"This had been added for security," said Hall County board Chairman Bud Jeffries. "It secures everything."
Watson said he still has concerns about some "blind corners," but supports the idea of having a "single entrance and exit" into the courthouse and annex. Existing exits could still be activated from the inside in the event of a fire or emergency, he said.
Hall County Supervisor Pam Lancaster said moving the security station to the new hallway addition is still under discussion.
"The plan is to move it there the timing isn't established," she said.
Other issues before the county board Tuesday include:
* A discussion on the jail bond guaranteed investment account.
* Receiving a tort claim from Qwest Facilities, which is claiming that employees of the Hall County Road Department damaged a Qwest buried service wire with a bulldozer on March 21 at Capital Avenue and 190th Road in Cairo.
* Discussion about new hires for the Hall County Corrections Department.
* Discussion regarding the Coalition for Protection of Agriculture Communities.
* Discussion and support of moving the Nebraska State Fair to Grand Island.
