Coaching group watches NU practice

Nebraska practiced in front of a large crowd on Friday afternoon as the Spring Coaches Clinic continued into its second day in Lincoln. As part of the clinic, the group of approximately 700 coaches took in Nebraska's 2 1/2-hour workout which took place in Memorial Stadium.

Nebraska again practiced in full pads on Friday as the Huskers completed their sixth of 15 spring workouts. The Huskers did some live scrimmaging toward the conclusion of the workout and defensive coordinator Carl Pelini was pleased with the team's effort.

"We had a short scrimmage, about 12 minutes," Pelini said. "It is the second time we've actually had contact. The aggression was a little better today. I saw guys getting after it on both sides of the ball."

Pelini said he has been pleased with the progress on defense, but there is a lot of ground to cover in the nine remaining spring practices.

"We're excited about the defensive side of the ball," Pelini said. "We think there are a lot of guys with experience that we can draw from, and they are taking leadership roles. They are all starting now to learn what we want in terms of effort and pursuit and flying around to the football and being a little more violent. We're taking steps in that direction, and we feel pretty good about their progress so far, but there's a long, long way to go."

Nebraska will complete its second week of spring practice on Saturday afternoon when the Huskers return to Memorial Stadium. The Saturday practice will also conclude the coaching clinic activities. Before Saturday's practice, the coaches at the clinic will hear from an impressive list of speakers including head coach Bo Pelini, athletic director Tom Osborne and Appalachian State head coach Jerry Moore. A Nebraska assistant from 1973 to 1978, Moore has guided his team to three consecutive national championships in the NCAA Championship Subdivision.

Spring game tickets

Nebraska fans are encouraged to purchase their spring game tickets soon if they have not already done so. The Athletic Department has announced that less than 8,000 tickets remain for public sale. With general admission seating, the incredible response from Husker fans who have already purchased advance tickets, and more than 10,000 complimentary tickets held for special groups (youth taking Drug Free pledge, former players, UNL students and faculty, families of currently deployed Nebraska soldiers) public ticket availability is very likely to end well in advance of the April 19 Red-White Game.

Remaining general admission tickets can be purchased at Huskers.com. Tickets to the Red-White Game are $8 for adults and $4 for youth (high school age and under).
