This is the weekend when the neighbors burst out of their doors to see who survived the winter. The weather promises to be the nicest since, oh, probably October. There will be some serious reclaiming of the yard from the winter's long siege. Perhaps a few barbecue grills will be fired up to feed the gang assembled to watch the Final Four. Whatever the case, enjoy the weekend. After this past winter, we all deserve it. We hope your basketball brackets are still intact on Sunday morning.

There are several special events tonight that deserve readers attention. The Nebraska Children's Home Foundation is celebrating its seventh annual "Weaving Families Together" event at the I-80 Holiday Inn. The NCH is in its 115th year of placing children with loving families through adoptions. Over 20,000 children have been placed in loving, caring homes in the past century and the organization deserves the full support of the community. It is the only agency in the state that does not charge a fee for its services and it relies on events like this for funding.

The Moonshell Arts and Humanities Council awards banquet is tonight at Riverside Golf Club. This is the premier arts recognition event of the year and will honor about a dozen organizations and individuals for their contributions to the area arts scene. Grand Island native Robert Hanna will be the featured speaker and make a presentation entitled "Through the Eyes of an Artist." Hanna is a noted Lincoln architect and teaches drawing and watercolor in the Midwest. Moonshell has done a remarkable job of saluting those who have made an impact on the community through the arts and highlighting their achievements.
