Navy Seaman Recruit Bradley P. Burgess and Navy Seaman Apprentice John A. Steenson recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill. During the eight-week program, the seamen completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness. Burgess is the son of Trila Martin of Oconto and Brian A. Burgess of Broken Bow. Steenson is a graduate of Grand Island Northwest High School.
Airman 1st Class, Tyler Pool of the U.S. Air Force, who is stationed at Langley Air Force Base, ran in the Yuengling Shamrock Marathon. The 26 mile marathon took three hours and 25 minutes for Pool to run. Two military flight surgeon and Pool ran as a team. Averaging their time, they won the trophy for the military. This qualifies them to run in an Ohio Marathon in September. Pool is a 2003 graduate of Northwest High School.
