Jameson competes at national meet
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. Grand Island's Davin Jameson finished 29th out of 129 swimmers while competing in the fifth out of 17 heats of the 100-yard breaststroke at the YMCA National Swimming Championships on Saturday.
He, who entered ranked 104th, won his heat in a time of 1:00.47, over 2 seconds off his previous best time. He held the top overall time until heat 13 and finished in 29th place.
He later swam a time trial in the 100 breaststroke and won the time trial with an improved time of 1:00.22. That would rank as the top time in Nebraska this year by anyone 21-and-younger. (The winning time at the state high school championship was 1:00.98).
Jameson also swam a time trial in the 200 breaststroke and finished in 19th place with a personal best time of 2:18.01, almost 5 seconds off of his previous best time.

Huskers split two matches in Colorado
DENVER The Nebraska volleyball team split a pair of spring exhibition matches on Saturday at the Noodle's and Company College Volleyball Challenge in Denver. The Huskers defeated New Mexico (25-16, 25-23) before falling to Colorado State (25-23, 25-23) as both the matches went a pre-determined two games.
According to assistant coach Lizzy Stemke, the two matches help the Huskers build for the upcoming season this fall.
"It was a good learning experience today, as all matches this time of the year are," Stemke said. "We were able to get players some experience in different roles and that is important as we develop through spring practice"
Stemke said one of the highlights was the performance of middle blockers Amanda Gates and Kori Cooper, as the pair split time at one of the middle blocking sports.

Huskers fall at Texas Tech
LUBBOCK, Texas Texas Tech snapped a 14-game losing streak to the Nebraska softball team on Saturday, as the Red Raiders blanked the Huskers 7-0 on a windy day at Rocky Johnson Field.
The loss was the Huskers' first against Texas Tech since a 6-5 home loss on March 31, 2001. Nebraska also saw its 11-game winning streak in Lubbock snapped, as the Red Raiders defended their home field with a win against NU for the first time since 1997 and just the second time ever.
With the loss, Nebraska (16-17) remained winless in Big 12 play, falling to 0-5 to start the conference season. Junior right-hander Molly Hill (7-7) took the loss, as she allowed seven runs (six earned) in a complete-game effort.
Ashly Jacobs (4-9) earned the win for Texas Tech, which improved to 10-27 overall and 2-4 in the Big 12 Conference. Jacobs threw a three-hit shutout, marking the first shutout for a Red Raider pitcher this season and just the second time Texas Tech has held a team scoreless.
After being retired in order in the first, Texas Tech scored in each of its final five innings. During that stretch, the Red Raiders pounded out 10 hits including one home run and four doubles while scoring four of their seven runs with two outs.
Although the Huskers had only three hits in the game, two went for extra bases. Junior Darcy Rutherford doubled in the sixth to extend her career-best hitting streak to 15 games, while fellow junior Crystal Carwile had a rare infield double in the seventh, as the wind played with her high pop up and allowed it to fall. Freshman Julie Brechtel had Nebraska's other hit.
Lopers sweep first-place Colorado Mines
KEARNEY Junior Ashley Guyle tossed a six hit complete game and senior Molly Langerak and sophomore Kelsey Smith hit homers in the same inning to help the Nebraska-Kearney softball team sweep Colorado School of Mines, 8-5 and 2-1, Saturday afternoon at Dryden Park.
UNK (10-20, 9-15 RMAC) wins two in a row for the first time since March 8-9. Mines, entering the day in first place in the East Division, falls to 23-13 (13-7).
MEN'S TENNIS
Huskers bounced by Texas
LINCOLN The Nebraska men's tennis team lost to the No. 6 Texas Longhorns 7-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Nebraska Tennis Center, in a match that was much closer than the final score indicated. The loss drops the Huskers to 9-11 overall and 0-2 in the Big 12 this year, while Texas improves to 17-3 and 3-0 in the Big 12.
Saturday's match was originally going to be played outdoors, but strong winds forced the teams to move to the NTC's indoor facility. The Huskers fell behind 1-0 after losing all three doubles matches, but two of those matches could have just as easily gone NU's way. Nebraska had two match points at No. 1 doubles before losing 9-7, and the Huskers lost in another close match at No. 3 doubles 8-6.
"I was especially pleased with the way we played doubles today," said NU coach Kerry McDermott. "We had some new combinations and we had two match points at No. 1. I think that carried into singles; our guys felt like they could play with their guys."
WOMEN'S TENNIS
Oklahoma State tops Nebraska
STILLWATER, Okla. The Nebraska women's tennis team fell to the Oklahoma State Cowgirls on Saturday afternoon 5-2 in Sitllwater, Okla. Both teams were very evenly matched, as five of the six singles matches went three sets. The Huskers fall to 13-4 on the year, including 2-4 in the Big 12, while Oklahoma State moves to 7-7 and 1-4 in the Big 12.
The Huskers started off by losing the doubles point, as Oklahoma State won at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Amber Chandronnait and Stephanie Evans earned their first Big 12 victory in doubles play with an 8-5 win at No. 3, but it wasn't enough to give the Huskers the point.
In singles play, neither team seemed to have an advantage over the other, as five of the six matches went three sets. Imke Reimers and Wiveca Swarting each earned their 14th singles victory of the spring with three set victories at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. OSU's Yawna Allen gave the Cowgirls the only two-set victory on the day with a 7-6 (5), 6-1 win over Jana Albers. Evans and Chandronnait lost in three sets at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, and junior Ashley Finnegan lost in three sets at No. 6 singles.
The Huskers will take on Oklahoma on Sunday morning in Norman, the final match of NU's current five-match road trip. Nebraska returns home next weekend with two matches at the Nebraska Tennis Center, against Missouri on Friday and Colorado on Sunday, April 13.
