Heartland Public Shooting park extends hours
The Heartland Public Shooting park will have extended hours of operation during the spring and summer months.
General hours/Clay target sports: Wednesday, Thursday and Friday: 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.; Saturday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday: noon to 5 p.m.
Handgun only hours: Thursday: 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Rifle and handgun ranges: Saturday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday: noon to 5 p.m.
Autism walk scheduled for Saturday
The Walk for Autism, a fundraiser for the Grand Island parent support group, will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
No registration is needed for the walk at Third City Christian Church, 4100 W. 13th St. All donations will go to supporting families and children within the community.
The event is sponsored by the Grand Island Autism Support Group and Autism Society of Nebraska.

Library to host teen promotions
As part of National Library Week, April 13 through April 19, the Grand Island Public Library will be hosting two teen promotions especially designed for students ages 11 to 18.
"Open Mic Night" will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. April 17 at the library. Teens will have five minutes entertain their friends with poetry, singing, a comedian act, reading part of a story or debating a topic with a friend. Prizes will be awarded and refreshment will be provided.
Also, teens will have a chance to win a two gigabyte iPod Shuffle by using Tutor.com. A live tutor ill be available online to assist students with Math, Science, English and Social Studies from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursdays, 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday, and 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

EMS offering pediatric safety workshop
The Emergency Medical Services Program of the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services will offer a workshop on "Pediatric Safety" to emergency medical technicians and first responders from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday at St. Francis Memorial Health Center building.

Timberlake to host Easter Seals respite camp this weekend
Central Nebraska Easter Seals Respite Weekend is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Friday and end at 11 a.m. Sunday at Camp Timberlake in Central City.
This weekend respite camp is open to disabled adults and children age 6 and up.

Humanities Council seeking to expand Prime Time Family Reading Time
The Nebraska Humanities Council seeks to expand Prime Time Family Reading Time to public libraries in Nebraska communities and neighborhoods where student reading scores are not meeting state standards.
Since 2002, the Nebraska Humanities Council has funded Prime Time, a six-week reading and discussion program for low-income families with children ages 6 to 10, at 14 libraries and five schools in 13 communities across the state.

Hasting police fundraiser scheduled for Sunday
The Hastings Mayor's Youth Council and Hastings YMCA will be sponsoring "A Canine Affair" at the Hastings City Dog Park from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. April 13.
This "Dog Day in the Park" is a fundraising activity with the proceeds going towards the purchase of a new canine patrol for the Hastings Police Department. Local vendors will have booths set up as well as information booths.
The Dog Park is located on South Elm Avenue, just south of Good Samaritan Village.
City of Hastings hosting disc golf tournament
The City of Hastings Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting a disc golf tournament at Lake Hastings Disc Golf Course on April 12.
There will be an entry fee of $20 per person which will cover 36 holes, a t-shirt, and a lunch. Discs will not be provided. Participants can sign up for the 16 and Under Division, the Novice/Intermediate Division, the Advanced/Pro Division, or the Masters (40+) Division.
Game starts at 10 a.m. with one round of golf, lunch, then the second round after lunch followed by an awards ceremony.
AAA Nebraska will host a passport event from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. April 15 at its branch office in Grand Island featuring free passport photos and guidance on new international travel requirements.
The federal government now requires proof of citizenship when arriving at all entry borders and seaports. The U.S. Department of State said passports will be required for air, land and sea travel by June 1, 2009.
AAA Travel highly recommends always carrying a passport on international trips, including cruises.
Once filed, travelers should allow a minimum of six weeks for the processing of their U.S. passport application. For more information, log on to www.ups.com/passports.
