NAIA Region III women's preview meet postponed until April 22
The Hastings College women's golf team was scheduled to play in the Region III preview tournament Thursday in Sioux Falls, S.D., but the event has been postponed to due bad predicted weather.
The Sioux Falls area is expected to have rain mixed with snow and winds up to 30 mph with temperatures in the mid 30s. The event has been rescheduled for April 22 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Hastings High Invitational postponed to April 17 due to poor weather conditions
Based on a forecast for unfavorable weather, the Hastings High Invitational boys golf tournament has been postponed until 9 a.m. next Thursday.
Grand Island Senior High is scheduled to compete in the tournament at Lochland Country Club.
Fonner View hosting league meeting for Thursday Night League on April 24
Grand Island Fonner View Golf Course is hosting meeting for the Thursday Night League on at 6 p.m. on April 24 at the golf course.
This league is a two-person team league with handicaps. The teams can be any combination of golfers.
Starting dates, prize funds and ending dates will be discussed. Please mark your calendar and plan to attend if you are interested in playing in this league or call the course at (308) 382-0202 for more information.

Hastings College athletes Spencer, Benson sweeps weekly GPAC honors
Hastings College's Alexia Spencer and Tyler Benson have been named as the Great Plains Athletic Conference players of the week.
Spencer, a junior from Longmont, Colo., posted a 2-1 record at No. 1 singles and 3-0 record at No. 1 doubles. Her two singles wins were against GPAC opponents Doane and Midland Lutheran, while her loss came against Bethel (Kan.).
Benson, a freshman from Kearney, posted a 3-0 singles and 3-0 doubles record as Hastings played Bethel, Doane and Midland Lutheran. In two of the matches, Benson played No. 3 singles, while in one match he played up at No. 2 singles.
Kearney Doubles Invitational canceled
The Kearney High Doubles Invitational for girls scheduled for Thursday has been canceled due to an unfavorable weather forecast. The meet will not be rescheduled.
Grand Island Senior High was scheduled to compete in the event.
* BASKETBALL
YMCA planning youth 3-on-3 summer leagues running June 2-July 7
The Grand Island YMCA is planning 3-on-3 summer youth basketball leagues.
The leagues are open to all boys and girls that will be in grades 5-8 for the 2008-09 school year. An organizational meeting will be held at 1 p.m. on May 27 at the YMCA. All players must be registered by that date.
The session lasts six weeks, starting June 2 and running through July 7. Games will be played on Mondays mornings at the YMCA. There must be at least four teams to have a league.
Fees per player are $15, which includes a T-shirt. The registration deadline is May 27.

Concordia Invitational rescheduled for Sunday due to weather conditions
The Concordia Invitational has been rescheduled for Sunday. Running events and field events will not begin before noon.
Papillion-LaVista meet rescheduled
The Papillion-LaVista South Titan Track and Field Invite, scheduled for Thusday, has been rescheduled for Monday. The time schedule will remain the same.
Chadron State's Wells named the RMAC Field Athlete of the Week
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. For the second consecutive week Chadron State College's Mary Wells has been named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week.
Wells, a senior from Albion, had two NCAA provisional marks last weekend at the Fort Hays State University Quadrangular as she won both the shot put and discus. Wells threw the discus 145-9 and the shot put 44-7.
Wells is second in the conference with a shot of 45-1/4 and she's third in the discus with a throw of 145-9.
* SOFTBALL
Texas A&M-Nebraska game to be broadcast April 26 on NET
LINCOLN Rhonda Revelle's Huskers can anticipate some tough competition when Big 12 Conference foe the Texas A&M Aggies challenge the Big Red on their home diamond at 12:30 p.m. April 26 at Bowlin Stadium at Haymarket Park. Catch the action on "Nebraska Softball" on NET1 and in high-definition on NET-HD.
Sportscaster Larry Punteney will provide play-by-play commentary for the matchup.
* BASEBALL
Huskers battle Jayhawks and Bluejays in broadcasts scheduled on NET1
LINCOLN First the Huskers face a Big 12 Conference foe, then they take on a traditional in-state rival, in baseball action broadcast live on NET Television.
The Huskers will try to counter the "Rock Chalk Jayhawk" mantra of the Kansas Jayhawks with some "Big Red Fever" April 20 as coach Ritch Price brings his KU team to Hawks Field at Haymarket Park in Lincoln to face Mike Anderson's Huskers when "Nebraska Baseball" airs on NET1 and in high-definition on NET-HD.
Then it's the Ed Servais-coached Creighton Bluejays taking the I-80 trip south to face Nebraska on the Huskers' home diamond at 6:30 p.m. April 22 on NET1 and NET-HD.
Sportscasters Kevin Kugler and Adrian Fiala will call all the action for both baseball games.
* VOLLEYBALL
Field set for Collegiate Nationals
LINCOLN The University of Nebraska volleyball team is one of six schools chosen to participate in the 2008 Collegiate National in San Diego, Calif.
The event, sponsored by the CBS College Sports Network, American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) and the AVP, is a showcase for some of the country's top amateur players to display their beach volleyball skills. The one-day competition will take place on Sunday, April 20 at Mariners Point in San Diego.
Teams from Nebraska, Clemson, San Diego, USC, Texas and Wisconsin will compete for the 2008 Collegiate Beach Volleyball Championship, one of the events in the third-annual collegiate nationals.
The Collegiate Beach Volleyball Championship features a team-style format with each school fielding four teams of two players. Following the conclusion of the event, one school will be awarded the overall championship. All six teams in this year's competition were ranked in the 2007 CBS College Sports Network/AVCA Coaches Top 25 Final Poll, including third-ranked USC, fifth-ranked Nebraska and sixth-ranked Texas.
In addition, 2007 All-Americans Jordan Larson (Nebraska), Taylor Carico (USC) and Brittany Dolgner (Wisconsin) are among the featured players this year. Larson joined former Husker All-American Sarah Pavan in winning the 2007 event, as last year's competition featured only two players per team, as opposed to entire teams this spring.
Extensive television coverage of the Collegiate Nationals kicksoff with a special one-hour program airing on CBS Sports at 1 p.m. May 25. The show will launch eight consecutive days of Olympic-style programming on CBS College Sports Network, followed by sport specific shows. AVP All-Star and Olympic Bronze Medalist Holly McPeak teams with play-by-play announcer Chris McGee to call the volleyball action.
The Collegiate Beach Volleyball Championship will adhere strictly to NCAA guidelines for college volleyball.
