Pelini announces plans for Red-White spring tilt

LINCOLN (AP) Starters will be split evenly among the Red and White squads for Nebraska's spring football game next week, coach Bo Pelini says.

Typically, players on the No. 1 units stay together. But Pelini said after Saturday's practice that he would use a system similar to a draft to divvy up the talent.

"We are not worrying about ones on ones or twos on twos," Pelini said. "We are going to watch our guys play football and get better as a group."

The spring game is set for next Saturday. No tickets remain.

The Cornhuskers ended the third week of spring practice with a 2 1/2-hour workout in the Hawks Championship Center. The practice ended with a 40-minute scrimmage.

"We got a lot done," Pelini said. "Both sides of the football are coming along. We have a lot of great competition. A lot of different guys are stepping up and making plays."

I-back Roy Helu turned in one of the big plays, breaking a touchdown run of more than 50 yards.

"I'm seeing a guy who is explosive," Pelini said. "He is a heck of a football player. I have seen that since day one this spring. It is fun to watch the guy play."

Nebraska returns to practice Monday.
