SEWARD < Columbus Lakeview scored 15 seconds into the game en route to a 3-1 win over Grand Island Northwest in the first round of the Central 10 Conference Tournament on Saturday.
"They stole the opening kickoff and ran down the field," Northwest coach Craig Charron said. "We didn't pick them up.
"It was one big letdown at the beginning of the game. They caught us by surprise."
The ViQueens (3-5) went up 2-0 before GINW scored a goal by Rachel Purdy off an assist from Alison Lilley in the 25th minute.
Lakeview upped its lead to 3-1 in the 30th minute, and the game was scoreless the rest of the way.
"There was a furious wind that played havoc on the field," Charron said. "We could not capitalize in the second half when we had it to our backs."
Northwest (3-7) plays at Seward on Monday.
