Huskers work out at Memorial Stadium
LINCOLN The Husker football team hit the Memorial Stadium turf on Monday for its final week preparation during spring practice. The Big Red once again competed in full pads under the watchful eye of first-year Head Coach Bo Pelini.
"The tempo wasn't where we wanted it at the beginning of practice, but the kids responded and really picked it up today," stated Pelini. "We as coaches have to challenge the kids and keep raising our expectations every time we hit the field. Everyone across the board has to have the same mindset for us to be successful."
When asked about the quarterback position Pelini was pleased with the evolution of Zac Lee and Patrick Witt.
"Patrick (Witt) and Zac (Lee) each bring something to the table for us. Patrick has a little better understanding of the system while Zac brings more athleticism. The competition between the two is good to see," added Pelini.
Many young Huskers will compete in their first spring game this year, including sophomore defensive back Prince Amukamara.
"At this time last year I was competing in high school track. It's a great experience to be part of football year around. I am excited for Saturday," said Amukamara.
The Big Red will strap up in full pads and helmets again on Wednesday and Thursday before practicing in front of a sold-out crowd in Memorial Stadium on Saturday for the annual Red-White Spring Game which is schedule for 1 p.m.
