Man sentenced in sexual assault up for parole

A Grand Island man sentenced to prison for attempting to sexually assault a 9-year-old girl is among Central Nebraskans up for parole this month.

Gene E. Spanjer Jr., 44, was sentenced to 11 years, eight months to 16 years, eight months for attempted first-degree sexual assault on a child for an Aug. 22, 1999, incident.

He was also required to register as a sexual offender for 10 years after he's released from prison or parole.

Spanjer was sentenced in Hall County in January 2000. His parole hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. April 24 at the Nebraska State Penitentiary of Lincoln.

Other Central Nebraskans up for parole include:

* Derek J. Roberson who was convicted of delivery of methamphetamine in Hamilton County. He was sentenced in January 2007 to one year, four months to two years, six months in prison. His hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the Community Corrections Center in Omaha.

* Martice Thurman was sentenced in December 2006 to possession of more than an ounce but less than a pound of marijuana. He was sentenced in Hall County to two years, six months to four years, two months in prison. His hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the Community Corrections Center in Omaha.

* Alberto Javier Vasquez was sentenced to one year, six months to four years, eight months in prison for obstructing a police officer in Sarpy County, and first-degree forgery and three counts of possession of meth in Hall County. He was sentenced in August 2006. His hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the Community Corrections Center in Omaha.

* Christopher L. Carter was convicted of three counts of second-degree forgery in Buffalo County. He was sentenced in October 2007 to one year, four months to four years, two months in prison. His hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. April 23 at the Community Corrections Center in Lincoln.

* Vincent L. Garrett was convicted in Hall County of carrying a concealed weapon. He was sentenced in September 2007 to 10 to 16 months in prison. His hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. April 23 at the Community Corrections Center in Lincoln.

* Deborah V. Johnson-White was sentenced to eight years, two months to 16 years, eight months in prison for 21 counts of second-degree forgery three each in Boone, Hamilton, Merrick and Platte counties, two each in Buffalo and Hall counties, four in Seward County and one in York County. She was also convicted of possession theft by deception in Boone County, theft by unlawful taking in Hall County, the unlawful use of a financial transaction device in Merrick County, possession of a forged instrument in Merrick County, and two counts of possession of a forged instrument in Nance County. She was sentenced in March 2003. Her hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. April 23 at the Community Corrections Center in Lincoln.

* Tony J. Martinez was sentenced to one year, one month to two years, two months in prison for driving with a revoked license and driving while intoxicated. He was sentenced in Hall County in September 2007. His hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. April 23 at the Community Corrections Center in Lincoln.

* Brandon L. Aguilar was convicted of two counts of burglary in Hall County. He was sentenced in December 2006 to two years, six months to four years, two months in prison. His hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. April 28 at the Omaha Correctional Center.

* Christopher Liner was sentenced to one year, eight months to four years, two months in prison for theft by receiving stolen property. He was sentenced in March 2007 in Buffalo County. His hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. April 28 at the Omaha Correctional Center.

* Joseph L. Harwell was convicted of two counts of burglary and four counts of criminal mischief in Nuckolls County and possession of meth with the intent to distribute. He was sentenced in February 2005 to four years to six years, eight months in prison. His hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. April 29 at the Lincoln Correctional Center.

* Jesus E. Medrano was sentenced in February 2007 to one year, eight months to three years, four months in prison for burglary in Hall County. His hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. April 29 in the Nebraska State Penitentiary in Lincoln.
